Sugar scrubs are some of the greatest & easiest bath and body products to make at home. With a simple formula you can have almost any SS you could possibly want. I am going to share with you my favorite and easiest recipe there is ... Get ready for it... 2 parts sugar 1 part oil. That's it. Now to dig a little deeper
some tips.
If you want a "softer" scrub go with a light brown sugar, the reasoning behind this is that the granules are just that softer than its white sugar counterpart. That being said if you would like more of an exfoliation from your scrub definitely go with the white sugar as it's granules are more course than its light brown sugar buddy.
On the topic of oils there really isn't a wrong choice unless car oil is in your thoughts and then that would in fact be an awful choice (please don't use anything that could be harmful to you or others around you!)
Some top choices in oils are ...
• Coconut oil
• Olive oil
• Grapeseed oil
and
• Vitamin E oil
These are the ones i have used and my results have always been stellar! But there are tons of oils out there so find the one that works best for you and go with that!
{ Tip! - want a "fluffier" scrub? add more sugar. Opposite goes for a "denser" scrub go for less sugar}
Now! On to the fun part, making your scrub smell yummy! So depending on the time of year you are reading this may or may not affect your choice of smell goodie-ness. Since it is fall now I'm definitely leaning more towards warm and cozy scents like... Apple cinnamon, hazelnut coffee, pumpkin pie, those kinds of things.
With that being said I personally find that when doing these warm cozy scents it is best to use brown sugar, A.) the softer sugars feel more luxurious to me. B.) the warmed scents just seem to go well with the mapley hint in the brown sugar. C.) they end up looking super cozy and fallish, which lets be honest is the best!
Tips for Spring & Summer scrubs - these times of the year we typically want fresh, clean or maybe fruity scents as apposed to warm cozy ones. Due to this I use white cane sugar because it is SO adaptable! Unlike brown sugar which really only can take on warm earthy scents. Some of my go to smells for Spring & Summer are.... Lemon, raspberry, cupcake, mint, lavender, sage, just to name a few.
Extra goodies -Sometimes to add more texture or to intensify the scent you can add things like the lavender flowers or lemon & orange rinds in pieces or even rose petals. Depending on what you choose to add though this could shorten your sugar scrubs shelf life unless you want icky rose petals or citrus rinds in your scrub... Please don't let your scrub get stanky... That would really put a damper on your day pinky promise.
